Coal miners and dinosaurs

Article Abstract:

The French media have always been critical of the American media. This is attributed to their varying perceptions about news. The American concept of news focuses on image with little emphasis on analysis. On the other hand, French news focuses on analysis and political comments rather than image. One such example is the French media's constant praise of the French film 'Germinal' by Claude Berri and its criticism of 'Jurassic Park' by Steven Spielberg despite its commercial success.

The trickle-down theory: what next - Rubens refrigerator magnets?

Article Abstract:

Many icons of Western civilization are exploited as icons of popular culture having nothing to do with the originals. Victor Hugo might be mistaken for the originator of a Quasimodo bubble bath. The movie industry often changes the slant on classics. Even the concept of angels has been changed.
