Stock-exchange chief to take reins at Krung Thai Bank

Article Abstract:

The Thai government has named Singh Tangtatsawas the new president of Krung Thai Bank PCL in a move that highlights the country's long-sought financial development. Formerly head of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, Singh is slated to take on his new role starting July 15, 1999. Analysts believe that Singh's appointment would present new and bigger challenges to his career. Singh's ability to perform amidst political pressure would be critical in helping the financially beleaguaered commercial bank reduce its bad loans.

Consultants move into Thailand as gloom starts to lift

Article Abstract:

Peter Walker, vice president of AT Kearney Ltd. in Thailand, talks about why Kearney decided to enter the Thai market again after the financial crisis in 1997. Walker says signs such as Thai companies asking for crisis management consulting and the many repeat business clients from the country encouraged their business. Walker says AT Kearney will focus mostly on banking, with possible reaches into the telecommunications and consumer sectors.

New central bank chief vows to back stability of the baht

Article Abstract:

Thailand's central bank governor Chatu Mongol has been replaced by Pridiyathorn Devakula. Upon his first day in office, Devakula announced his main priorities were to secure foreign exchange reserves, stabilize the baht, and raise interest rates. Although the present bank governor is well experienced, the country is still adjusting to the change in leadership.
