Striving for a place in the sun

Article Abstract:

Tour operators First Choice have been valued at about 700 million pounds sterling. The company made profits of 50 million pounds sterling between Oct 1997-Oct 1998. They have been very active in the acquisitions market during 1998, with important acquisitions such as Hayes and Jarvis for 24 million pounds sterling and Unijet for 110 million pounds sterling. First Choice owns a 25% share in Holiday Hypermarkets, a concept which they hope will expand rapidly. They are also interested in increasing their retail outlets to 500, by the end of 1999.

The Northwest leads the way

Article Abstract:

The north west of England has seen considerable changes in the transport and travel industries over recent years. For example, Airtours and Sunset Holidays, both based in Manchester, England, were able to derive benefits from the collapse of International Leisure Group in 1991, which prompted extensive changes in the tour operating industry in the UK. At Eurocamp, the large north west-based holiday company, positive developments have been seen following the purchase of Superbreaks.

They think it's all over

Article Abstract:

Professional soccer clubs have a wide range of investment services to choose from in the Manchester area of England. Many of the clubs were floated on the Alternative Investment Market during 1996 and the early part of 1997. Investment confidence suffered a severe blow when the market was perceived to be overvalued in Feb 1997 although investment groups are still interested in clubs which are managed well and demonstrate a good playing record.
