Article Abstract:

Finnish Sinebrychoff and Coca-Cola plan on beginning cooperation on the soft drink production and distribution from the beginning of 1999. According to Hartwall , which made a cooperation agreement with Pepsi, the future plans of Hartwall and Coca-Cola were not compatible. The new arrangement will not affect Hartwall personnel. Coca-Cola Finland is expected to become a part of Coca-Cola Nordic Beverages. An important part of the negotiations between Sinebrychoff and Coca-Cola is the necessary investment of approx. Fmk 300mn (US$ 55mn) on the Kerava plant in southern Finland which Coca-Cola is expected to take part in. Sinebrychoff estimates the possible agreement to increase their production by approx. 20% to 360mn liters/yr. Both Sinebrychoff and Hartwall believe the consumption of soft drinks to continue increasing in Finland.

Article Abstract:

Finland's Neste is for now the only western partner in the Russian Severtek as the French Elf Aquitane gives up their share. Neste has held a 20% share in the company which searches oil in the state of Kom in Russia, Elf held 30% and Russian Komitek 50%. Elf declared low profitability of the project as the official reason for the abandonment. On the other hand, Elf has signed an agreement on strategic cooperation with Russian Sibneft oil company which operates in the same region. Neste says they will continue with Severtek and search for new western partners into the project.

Article Abstract:

The Finnish Helsinki Energy is interested in the Estonian markets. They have signed an agreement with the Estonian Eesti Energia AS and AS Tallinna Soojus on cooperation to study the possibilities of utilizing Tallinn district heating in electricity production. The cooperation aims at creating the best possible conditions for producing low cost electricity and district heating in Tallinn. Helsinki Energy will also investigate the profitability of a future joint power station. The heat created in the plant would be used in Tallinn and the electricity exported to the Nordic markets.
