Suomen mets nhoito on Euroopan toiseksi parasta

Article Abstract:

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Finnish forests are managed extremely well. The multiplicity of nature has been secured as well as the production of wood. The reform decisions are made together with the authorities, the industry and environmental organizations. On the negative side, WWF states that only 0.6% of forests in Southern Finland are fully protected. Additionally, WWF notes that the cutting areas are too large and that the environmental organizations are not heard enough when making silvicultural plans. WWF estimates the state of forestry in Finland No. 2 in Europe. Only Switzerland is ahead of Finland. The third country is Austria. The WWF President, Claude Martin, says that the attitudes of Finns towards forest protection improved decisively after the 1993 Helsinki forestry conference whereas in other countries no improvements have occurred.

Ahtisaari nimitti Matti Vanhalan Suomen Pankin p johtajaksi

Article Abstract:

The president of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari, has appointed Matti Vanhala the new governor of the Bank of Finland. Vanhala was proposed to the post by the Parliamentary Trustees of the Bank of Finland. According to Vanhala, his appointment to the Bank of Finland emphasizes continuity. The basic approach of the Finnish central bank remains the same and preparations for the Economic and Monetary Union, EMU, continue as under the governance of Sirkka H m l inen . The new governor Vanhala believes that for Finland the gains of Emu are greater than the drawbacks. Due to the Emu membership Finland's interest rate level is forced to remain more stable and moderate than outside Emu. However, the risks of the monetary union must not be underestimated. Emu brings with it a new risk, i.e. the financial policies of other countries.

Suomen Pankki myi valtaosan setelipainosta kotimaisille sijoittajille

Article Abstract:

The Bank of Finland has sold 60% of the shares of Setec . The shares were bought by an investment group lead by Sitra including Sitra, Finland's Industry investment, mutual insurance company El ke-Varma and life insurance company Nova. Moreover, the acting Setec management became the company partners. Setec states that the ownership reorganization was necessary since the development of the company's most rapidly growing product group, smart card development, requires even more active contribution. Setec will be developed into an international group with a solid position in especially the Nordic markets. The company will be listed within a few years.
