Systems now ready to start tracing fish

Article Abstract:

The recent outbreaks of mad cow disease has forced the food processing industry to come up with some sort of methodology for tracing the source of the foods. The systems, technology and gadgets that will be used by the European Union and the FDA within a year for tracing the fish source are discussed. The European Union initiative 'The Traceability of Fish Products Concerted Action Project' better known as tracefish is also discussed.

Lighter nylon grid for Svalbard shrimping

Article Abstract:

Temporarily nylon shrimp sorting grids are being allowed in Svalbard waters. The use of nylon grids was best to reduce by-catches, sorting and general effectiveness. The qualities that make the nylon grid better than that of steel or plastic are presented.
