THE PACKAGING THAT WENT WRONG: FLEX INDUSTRIES

Article Abstract:

Flex Industries has got into a debt burden of over Rs400 crore due to its investments to get into production of BOPP and polyester films. It showed a net loss of over Rs42 crore on a turnover of Rs434.8 crore in the year ended June 1998 against a profit of Rs22 crore on a turnover of Rs430.9 crore in the year ended June 1997. The economic slowdown and the recession has also restricted the company's growth to just one percent over the last one year. The company's plans to substitute high cost debt with a $90 million external commercial borrowing has also not materialised. (khr)
