TV COS TAKE GUARD BEFORE WORLD CUP BEGINS

Article Abstract:

Television companies have started building additional capacities, launching new models and increasing advertisement budgets to benefit from the expected sales that the June 1999 World Cup cricket will generate. It is expected that the sales of colour televisions will increase by 50-60 percent during April-June 1999. LG Electronics Ltd, the official sponsor of the World Cup, is said to have earmarked Rs8 crore for its India promotion while Philips India Ltd has set aside an advertising budget of Rs15 crore. The advertising budget of Samsung is expected to be about Rs25 crore during the World Cup while that of Baron International is likely to be about Rs15 crore and Onida's Rs10-12 crore. Most of the companies are competing with each other to sponsor programs on the ESPN and Star Sports channels. (khr)

POKARNA GRANITES LIMITED

Pokarna Granites Ltd of Secunderabad, a part of the Pokarna Group, has been successful as it moved from quarrying to value added products. Its operations are spread over three southern states which produce a wide range of granites including Black galaxy, sapphire Brown, Indian Juprana, Red Multi Colour among others. It has a commanding position in the international granite markets due to its strengths in quarrying and production. (khr)
