TZ re-starts production at a rented rolling mill

Article Abstract:

Trinecke zelezarny (TZ) (Trinec, Czech Republic), metallurgy company, will re-start production at a billet mill in Kladno, the Czech Republic, in September 1998. The firm plans to invest 750 mil Kc in the re-start of the billet mill, which was out of operation during the last two years. TZ rented the billet mill from the metallurgy firm Poldi (Kladno, Czech Republic). The billet mill should process continuous sows and ingots manufactured at TZ's metallurgy plant in Trinec. High-quality products from the billet mill will be intended for the engineering and car industries. Besides, TZ wants to utilise Poldi's extensive repair and treatment capacities. If TZ succeeded in the project, it would become one of the most important high-grade rolled steel producers in Europe.

Nova Hut

Article Abstract:

Nova hut (NH) (Ostrava, Czech Republic), steel company, invested a total of more than 4 bil Kc in 1998. Nearly 25% of the sum was intended for environmental projects. The firm decreased its results in 1998 compared to the plan, due to decline in the boom of metallurgy production, mainly rolled goods. The volume of the firm's goods production decreased by nearly 2 bil Kc in 1998 compared to 1997. Besides, NH realised the planned growth neither in productivity from added value nor productivity from the production of goods per employee. The company's losses from recognised goods return were nearly 29 mil Kc in 1998. NH's gross profit increased by 5 mil Kc to 365 mil Kc in 1998 compared to 1997. The number of the company's employees decreased by 589 to 14,681 persons in 1998.
