Taiwanese catch net fever as online trading grows: quick trades and low fees attract small retail investors despite regional economic downturn

Article Abstract:

Online trading has experienced significant growth in Taiwan despite the country's ailing economy. This is attributed to the active trading by small investors lured by the low broker fees and quick transactions offered by online trading. However, online investors have yet to reach the number needed to make the business profitable for brokerage firms. Moreover, the absence of online trading regulations could undermine its growth.

Anonymous comments in chat rooms on the Internet show that not everyone in the world was dismayed by the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Many people think the United States has been a bully, and deserved to be attacked. Some newspapers agreed with this sentiment, despite official government expressions of condemnation of the attacks.
