Making things a lot better

Article Abstract:

Dutch electronics concern Philips regards people as the most important element in its business, according to president and chief executive Jan Timmer. The company had become too complacent by the beginning of the 1990s, and Timmer has been responsible for introducing wide-reaching changes, including a redundancy programme that will eventually see the loss of 45,000 jobs. A number of divestments have been made, and new emphasis has been placed on employee motivation, customer care and quality.
