Taking the sting out of warranties

Article Abstract:

Warranty insurance can benefit both vendor and purchaser during the acquisition of a business, but few brokers offer such insurance. Warranty insurance protects the vendor against possible future claims relating to warranties. Purchasers may also have greater protection if they have been given warranties backed by warranty insurance. However, warranty insurance will not offer total protection: claims usually excluded include claims for bad debts; claims linked to some environmental issues; and claims where the the insured has been involved in dishonesty or fraud.

Why small firms lose in the selling stakes

Article Abstract:

It is often hard to establish why small and medium-sized private companies usually sell at a lower price than larger companies. P/e multiples tend to rise in line with the company's size up to a point, then reach a ceiling and slow down before stabilising at a relatively high level. There are a number of different factors which determine the link between company size and price, most of which are associated with risk and prospects for expansion.

Do or die for DIY

Article Abstract:

The UK DIY sector has experienced considerable difficulties over recent years, following a period of strong growth in the 1980s. Price competition has become extremely fierce, and manufacturers and distributors of DIY products have also been badly affected. Many retailers are now reducing their supplier base, a move which will benefit larger suppliers with extensive product ranges.
