Telecom Italia wants a 25% stake in Telemar
Article Abstract:
Telecom Italia SpA announces its interest in buying the 25% stake of Tele Norte Leste Participacoes SA, which will be auctioned by the Brazilian government in late November or early December 1998. The Brazilian telecommunications company, which is also known as Telemar, was privatized in July 1998 for $2.9 billion. However, the private consortium also relinquished 25% of Telemar's stake to the national development bank. The government expects earnings to reach $1 billion from this sale.
