Tequila sunrise: despite Asia's rally, U.S. investors are wary

Article Abstract:

US investors are uncertain about investing in Asian markets after the way the Asian markets responded to the devaluation of the Mexican peso on Dec 20, 1994. While the Asian countries have recovered well from the Dec and Jan losses, there is the feeling that these markets are too vulnerable and volatile. US fund managers acknowledge the volatility and say that these markets may not be suited for new investors. Seasoned investors willing to take risks can hope to profit from the growth potential in emerging markets.

The in crowd: Asia is no passing fad for U.S. investors

Article Abstract:

US individual and institutional investors are taking Asian equities seriously and buying them for long-term profits. Not only will this diversify US holdings, it promises to advance international standards of disclosure and investment practices in Asia. While these investors run the gamut in both size and sophistication, they tend to seek a relationship based on trust. Companies recognizing this can benefit. While US investment in Asia had a net outflow in late 1994, the rising trend is inexorable.
