Thai project yields graft and new policies

Article Abstract:

The mismanagement of the loans given by Asian Development Bank to Thailand to establish a wastewater treatment plant at Samut Prakaran region of Thailand that lies east of Bangkok has been described. The lessons learnt by the officials of Asian Development Bank after this setback and corrective measures taken by it have been described.

Footloose Asia: a model for safer Asian skies

Safety standards and procedures of low-budget airlines were blamed for the recent plane crash in Thailand. This unfair portrayal of airline safety shortcomings has shifted the blame from government regulations. Efforts of civil aviation authorities to ensure airline safety are discussed.

The Asian financial crisis of 1997-1998 had created havoc with a lot of banks in the region, but the Bangkok bank has emerged stronger after the crisis. The bank is still run by the family that founded it, who have initiated a series of measures for bringing growth prospects.
