Thai real-estate rattling prompts search for quality

Article Abstract:

The yields of Thai property companies' convertible bonds rose dramatically after the announcement that Somprasong Land Managing Dir. and Chmn. Prasong Pnichpakdee would be arrested. Somprasong's Euroconvertible bonds became the highest-yielding Asian bond issue at 107% though trading in the company's shares was suspended. The issue has created widespread fears in the Thai real estate industry, which has been experiencing weak returns on convertible bonds since 1994.

High yields of Thai real-estate bonds are enticing more and more investors

Article Abstract:

An increasing number of foreign investors are buying up shares of some Thai real estate development companies in anticipation of a quick profit. Until recently, many had avoided Thai property developers amid concerns on rising interest rates and weak demand for housing. Analysts believe this new-found attraction to Thai real estate firms is due to their convertible bonds which offer yields as high as 23%, the highest in Asia based on their yield to put.
