Thailand to raise US$13bn through privatisation

Article Abstract:

Privatizations in progress are set to raise some $13 billion for Thailand's government, according to a government spokesman. The sale of stakes in Electricity Generating Company and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand could amount to $420 million and $7 billion respectively, while a reduction in the government's 51% stake in Petroleum Authority of Thailand's exploration and production arm may raise $590 million. The Thai government wants to create a law that will open all business areas to foreign investment, except those related to national heritage and national defence.
