The Bulgarian market for confectionery

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the Bulgarian confectionery market reveals that the growth of confectionery retail sales was slower than the general economy and total retail sales from 1993 to 1997. Within that timeframe, confectionery consumption dropped from three kgs per capita to just 2.5 kgs and the retail market size fell from $154 million and 26,000 tons to $124 million and below 21,000 tons. Taking 61% of the market's value and 59% in terms of volume, chocolate dominated confectionery retail sales. This review also reveals total market size, performance of market sectors, major brands, market share and outlook.
