The CAN-SPAM Act: New rules for sending commercial e-mail messages and implications for the sales force

Article Abstract:

The implications of the CAN-SPAM (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing) Act for salespeople and sales managers using commercial e-mails are clarified. The CAN-SPAM Act directs the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to study and report to Congress on the effectiveness and enforcement of the Act's provisions and it is also an important advance in controlling spam in the US, but also poses many complexities, including civil and criminal penalties, for the uninformed.
