Increased investment by Chinese state-owned conglomerates in the top businesses of Hong Kong is casting doubt on whether business will remain free of communist restrictions after the unification of Hong Kong and China. Top investors, like Larry Yung, are selling out to China.

Four men are likely candidates for CEO of Hong Kong after China takes over in 1997. The winner will be selected by China, and the new CEO will report to Communist officials. An independent CEO would be better for Hong Kong, and the future of the colony is unpredictable.

Is Hong Kong ripe for a bit of central planning?

Hong Kong, long the epitome of unfettered capitalism and free market economics, may have more interventionist policies under Chinese rule. It is thought that China wants to promote more high tech manufacturing in Hong Kong and may use central planning to create it.
