The China syndrome

Article Abstract:

Foreign companies are losing money in the Chinese market and are beginning to rethink their strategies in coping with a market riddled by competition, high tax rates and contradictory policies. Some companies even predict that local competitors will begin forming consortiums that foreign businesses may have to join in order to remain profitable. China has seen an influx of foreign investment but the figures may force companies to think again about investing in China.

Article Abstract:

Multinational firms do not make sense in an ideal free-trade world. it would be most efficient to concentrate manufacturing and distribution or license or subcontract it out. Multinationals are strengthened by market imperfections, such as transportation costs and competition to preempt trade barriers.
