The French market for textile washing products: market shares: textile washing products: manufacturers'

Article Abstract:

Procter & Gamble remains the market leader in the French textile washing products market with a 1997 market share of 34.1% in value terms. P&G, however, has lost market share to Henkel SA, which has seen its market share increase by 0.9 percentage points between 1996 and 1997; P&G's market share declined by 1.1 percentage points during the same period. Nonetheless, Henkel SA still lags behind P&G, with a market share of 18.5% in 1997. Private label, meanwhile, remains a minor player, but its market share is growing. Private label products accounted for 3.8% of total market sales in 1997, an increase of 0.5 percentage points from 1996.

Article Abstract:

Henkel led all manufacturers in the German market for textile washing products, with 38.1% of value sales in 1997, up from 34.6% in 1995. Procter & Gamble follows with a value share of 26.8% in 1997, down from 31.7% in 1995, as a result of factors that include a restructuring of its discount system, a move which failed to become instantly popular among retailers. Unilever, owner of the popular fabric softener brand Kuschelweich and the foremost delicate fabrics brand, Coral, came at third with a value share of 13.7% in 1997, up from 12.8% in 1995.
