The GE/Honeywell test-case

The European Commission has intervened in GE's $40 billion bid for Honeywell and it looks likely the merger bid may be blocked. The Commission is particularly concerned about the range effects of the bid and European merger law may be changed.

EU blocks GE's Honeywell takeover

Article Abstract:

The European Commission has blocked the proposed acquisition in 2001 of Honeywell by General Electric for $43 billion. The deal had been approved in the United States, but the EC felt it was anti-competitive.
