The Italian market for surface cleaners: prices & margins: typical margins: household cleaning agents

Retail margins in the household cleaning agents market of Italy greatly vary, due to the vast diversity of products under the four sectors. Margins on the dishwashing sector differ between manual and automatic types, while surface/scourers retail margins have a wider variation due to its heterogeneous product type. The lavatory/bleaches sector has one of the lowest margins in the market, while the polishes/waxes sector has a somewhat narrower range of margins. Overall, less costly kinds of bleaches have small margins for retailers, while newer products including bathroom cleaners with bleach, have a bigger margins.

Advertising expenditure for the expansive Italian market for household cleaning agents accounted for 318.4 billion lira in 1996, a figure that is slightly up from the 315.4 billion lira spent a year before. The figure also indicates an adspend increase of 10.% between 1993 and 1996, reaching an all time high in 1995 due to many new product introductions. Adpsends are typically significant in the household cleaning products market, taking into account its great reliance on innovation and new product launches.
