The M4A1 Close Quarters Battle Weapon

Article Abstract:

Colt's M4 and M4A1 carbines will soon be the standard weapon of the US airborne and special operations forces, replacing the M16A2 rifle. Also, the M4A1 Close Quarters Battle Weapon will replace the Heckler and Koch MP5 submachine gun in US special operations forces. The M4 carbine is basically an M16A2 with a 14.5-in barrel, while the M4A1 is the shortened version of the 'flat top' M16A3. The M4A1 differs from the M4 because of the former's detachable carrying handle/rear sight assembly and its capability of full automatic fire.
