Thomson-CSF masters air-defense radar

Article Abstract:

Thomson-CSF Airsys is readying to deliver the first of its Master line of solid-state, transportable, three-dimensional S-band air-defense radars in September 1998. The line includes the Master T tactical radar; the Master A multi-function radar; and, the Master M extended range early-warning radar. The company said that it has as many as 10 serious prospects for the Master line of radars, including Argentina, Cyprus and Slovakia. Airsys said that it can start shipping Master radars in 1999, following on the original Singapore contract which is thought to be for two Master A radars. The company is readying to enhance Master A by including a Theater Missile Defense capability.

BK 27 fighter gun variants for sea and land applications

Article Abstract:

Mauser is anticipating a DM20-million, or $10.9-million, development contract from Germany's BWB defense procurement agency for its Naval 27-mm Gun System, or MN 27, which was derived from its BK 27 fighter aircraft gun system. Under the contract, Mauser will also come up with a new 27-mm frangible armor-piercing discarding sabot (FAPDS) round that will be used as the combat ammunition of the MN 27. The FAPDS round will have a projectile mass of 225 grams, a penetrator mass of 175 grams and a muzzle velocity of 1,150 meters per second. The gun's effective range is nearly 5,000 m.

DCN minehunter completes latest trials

Article Abstract:

ISE Research Ltd and DCN International have entered the next phase of the sea trials of the FDS3 remotely operated minehunting system off Canada. The trials focus on deep sonar towing operations using a Dolphin semisubmersible vehicle. They follow a series of sea trials coducted in the middle of 1999 in shallow waters off the French Atlantic coast. The trials revealed that the FDS3 system can operate in heavy seas and be deployed quickly during overseas operations.
