Israel continues to allow settlements to be built on the West Bank despite Palestinian protests that the West Bank was promised to them in the recent peace settlement. Israel has seized 16,000 hectares of Palestinian land and is planning secure roads to settlements that Palestinians may not use.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has asked weapons manufacturers, doctors, relief workers and others to investigate ways to deal with land mines that are left in civilian areas. Their concern is over the threat to innocent civilians and the hindrance to international relief efforts.
