The biology of music

Article Abstract:

There is some understanding of how and why music affects people. Musical abilities are separate from language, as is shown by cases of people with limited brain damage, who may retail musical skills while losing speech. There are different tasks involved in processing music, such as tune recognition, and recognizing wrong notes. The right hemisphere of the brain appears to play a greater role in processing music than the left hemisphere. Trained musicians respond differently to music than untrained people, and responses to harmonic music are different from responses to rhythmical music.
