The hotel and the open systems model of organisational analysis

Article Abstract:

The standard of management in the hotel industry should not be isolated from that of other industries. Hotel managers should take notice of the management techniques and doctrines in other industries since they all share certain charactistics of service such as high fixed costs, labor intensive, low wages and unsocial working hours. An open system view of the hotel industry is possible such that specific inputs are translated into outputs whereby goals are achieved.

The new team organization: learning to manage arbitrariness

Article Abstract:

Arbitrariness should be handled from a new, non-bureaucratic perspective in order for team organization to fully succeed. Objectivity should be perceived as the core organizational value, with respect afforded to gamesmanship and team autonomy while challenge should be encouraged. Arbitrariness is a problem in team management and the team organization should encompass a framework for group and individual behaviour.
