The doubts grow: care in the community

Article Abstract:

A 1994 settlement requires the transfer of more than 2,000 developmentally disabled patients from regional institutions into community-based settings. Although the Lanterman Act has required such integration since 1977, California has been slow to act due to doubts about the safety and costs of community care.

Article Abstract:

The limestone produced by electroaccretion could be used as a low-cost building material, according to civil engineer Jorge Zapp. Electroaccreted limestone is being pushed as an alternative to asbestos-reinforced cement, which is still in common use in the developing world.
