The future of water

Article Abstract:

Water supply has become a significant issue in the UK following a period of low rainfall. It appears that demand for water is exceeding supply in the long term, and this situation is set to worsen as summers become hotter and rainfall declines. Key issues within the debate about water supply include whether water companies should be permitted to drain rivers, whether some competition should be introduced in the supply of water and whether water shortages are being caused by insufficient investment by water companies. It is possible that installing meters may be the best way of controlling demand for water.

Water, water, everywhere

Article Abstract:

Water is quickly becoming Asia's most valuable resource thanks to a rising population, industrial demands, widespread pollution, and occasional drought. Private-sector efforts to address the problem offer the most promising solutions, but political and economic costs make this route difficult. Costs are already high, however, with the poor paying exorbitant prices to private vendors, disease from foul water common, and China alone losing $27 billion annually in industrial productivity.
