Article Abstract:

Vltava-Labe-Press (VLP) (Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic), publishing company, will be the new publisher of the dailies Bohemia and Vecernik Praha from 2000. VLP originated as a merger of the publishers Vydavatelstvi Vltava (Czech Republic), Vydavatelstvi Labe (Czech Republic), PNPress (Czech Republic) and the firm Mir (Czech Republic) as of 01 July 2000. VLP publishes a total of 44 dailies with a total average circulation of more than 300,000 copies per day. It has five modern printing plants. Its stock amounts to 1.2 bil Kc and its only shareholder is Pol-Print Medien (Passau, Germany).

Fine-tuning the small firm

Article Abstract:

As Chief Executive of Boosey & Hawkes since 1989, Richard Holland has helped to rejuvenate the fortunes of the musical instrument manufacturing company. Results for 1995 show a before tax profit of 6.17 million pounds sterling, and preliminary results for 1996 point to an increase in profits of around 20%. During 1996 Holland has overseen the acquisition of two companies, which has allowed the business to diversify into music publishing and musical accessory production.

Small but growing

Article Abstract:

The Caribbean and Central American regions are benefitting from the growing new direct investments from US companies. US exports to the region increased by 16% to $71.6 billion in the year ended Nov 1996, while imports from the region jumped by 18% to $86.3 billion. Five key service sectors with export growth potential are information technology, offshore financing, health tourism, professional services and entertainment.
