The good, the bad and the ugly

Article Abstract:

Greater investment in products related to venture capital has been encouraged by the UK government with the introduction of tax incentives and financial assistance through the 1998 Finance Act and regulations brought in by the March 1998 Budget. Tax relief of 150,000 pounds sterling has been introduced for those investing in the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS), while the investment limit for EIS firms has been abolished. Provisions affecting employee share schemes have also been introduced.

No place for off-the-shelf solutions

Article Abstract:

Management buyout financing varies between different European countries, and the European market for senior debt can be divided into different types. These range from purely domestic deals to Pan-European transactions, and the more international a transaction, the more complex is the process for arranging such deals. There are also cultural and legal differences between individual European countires which should also be taken into account.

The attractions of a trade sale

Article Abstract:

The listing of an investee company on the stock market is not necessarily the best exit route for venture capitalists. Recently, attention has turned towards the trade sale option in order to realise full value. It is becoming clear that more imagination and flexibility are now required, and some arrangements are now being made which involve grouping three or four smaller companies into a larger concern before seeking the full exit.
