Innovations in drug therapy for AIDS patients have sufferers and activists hopeful, but the drugs are extremely expensive. Pharmaceutical companies are vying for market share in protease inhibitors and other new drugs. Several drug companies and their products are discussed.

Glaxo has launched a $15 billion hostile bid for pharmaceutical rival Wellcome, and competitors are skeptical of the bid. Sykes is trying to build clout as a supplier, believing that drug manufacturers will eventually have an edge over distributors.
