The millennium of the West

Article Abstract:

The period between 1000 and 2000 has seen the export of soldiers, religion, technology, business and other systems from Europe and North America. Western dominance may be eroded with the rise of China and India, and Christianity is declining, while Islam is not. The rise of the West was not predictable, and India and China were more advanced in 999, while the Mongol and Turkish invasions were important. Knowledge of health and public hygiene came from the Arabs to Europe, as did navigation and mathematics. The increase in wealth and spread of democracy could also not have been foreseen easily.

Jordan asks for more: water politics

Article Abstract:

Jordan is pressuring Israel to provide it with 200 million cubic meters of water a year, presumably under terms of the 1994 Jordan-Israel peace treaty. But the treaty's terms on water allocation are ambiguous, and Israel must also address its own water supply needs.
