The price of money: deals which make sense will always find funds available

Article Abstract:

A growing range of financing options for both corporations and infrastructure projects has made funds more readily available than ever, especially for the best deals. Banks have long restricted the use of capital markets, though now some are using them to become equity owners more than lenders. China and India are still building the frameworks for more open markets that other countries in the region embraced a generation ago, but even there more than enough money is available. More local investors are needed, however.

Anxious in August: bankers get the jitters over Chinese credit risks

Article Abstract:

A report concerning the alleged theft of $28 billion by mainland Chinese bankers has aroused concern among Hongkong's bankers that such massive corruption may damage China's banking system. Exchanges between Hongkong and Chinese banks may slow down until the report is confirmed. The alleged theft and other indications such as the increased use of foreign credit lines by Chinese banks suggest the Chinese are becoming a poor credit risk.

Best in the region

Article Abstract:

Singapore's banks are financially among the strongest in Asia, thanks in large part to tight regulation by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Moreover, Singapore has succeeded in allowing foreign banks only limited access to its domestic credit market. Singapore banks are likely to pursue diversification using their built-up capital. Whether this diversification will include expansion into other countries remains uncertain.
