Analyzing the analysts

Article Abstract:

Fund managers rarely take brokerage reports at face value but do find them useful for raw data and as indicators of broad stock status, and pay special attention to negative reports. Most reports' conclusions are less valuable because of the strong conflict of interest most investment analysts and brokerage units face. The fund managers can use broking firms' salesmen to cull more from the research, but most investors should just use common sense and buy when foreign buyers lose faith and prices become reasonable.
