Yeltsin submits START II, ABM-TMD agreements to Duma

Article Abstract:

Russian Pres Boris Yeltsin submitted the strategic arms control agreement package between the US and Russia to the Duma on Apr 13, 1998, as part of the ratification of START II. The strategic arms control agreements, which were signed by both countries on Sep 1997, contain the START II extension protocol and associated documents, agreed statements concerning to the ABM Treaty, the memorandum of understanding on succession to the ABM Treaty, the agreement on confidence-building measures and Standing Consultative Commission laws.

The singing priest

Article Abstract:

Patrick Massang, a Roman Catholic priest in a remote region of the east Malaysian state of Sarawak, has used his singing talents to produce funds which have been partly invested in the young people of his parish. He is soon to release his fourth album, a collection of his favourite hymns, and will in 1997 stage a musical in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. It is vital that young people are given opportunities which will place them in a good position to be the leaders of the 21st century, according to Massang.
