The smart way to drive

Article Abstract:

The joint venture between Mercedes Benz AG and Swatch led to the creation of 'Smart' car. The two-seater automobile combines the stylized comfort of Mercedes and the whimsical flair of Swatch. Former Swatch Marketing and Sales Executive Hans Jurg Schar believes that the Smart could be the family's favorite second car in Switzerland as it saves fuel as well as parking space. The Smart's hybrid model, which is due in 1998, is expected to become an instant hit to environmentalists as it uses an electric engine for city driving and a diesel motor for long distance drives.
