Advertising that clicks

Article Abstract:

Spending on advertising on the Internet looks set to rise to $33 billion by 2004 from $3.3 billlion in 1999, according to Forrester Research. The Internet offers a chance to interact, and offers possibilities for one-to-one marketing. Advertisers can save money through targeting. Advertisers can develop links with web sites and this remove the need to use intermediaries like creative Web agencies and media buyers. Internet users are interested in content, and effective advertising includes book reviews that link to Amazon's website.

Netymology

Article Abstract:

There are a number of terms used in Internet advertising, such as 'banners', which are located at the start of Web pages. 'Permanent buttons' are like banners but smaller and can be interactive. 'Interstitials' are found between content pages, and there is a new version called 'supersitials' that can download with no interruptions to users. 'Rich-media expanding banners' combine photographs, animation, audio and video. E-mail and prizes are also used by advertisers. Affiliate deals are also used and involve a revenue split with a Web site.
