The orthodox Israeli political party Shas has decided to withdraw from the coalition government following Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's return from the FEB 1995 Palestinian peace conference in Cairo, Egypt. Without the Shas Party, Rabin does not have a majority in the Knesset.

The installation of the Labor-led coalition government of incoming Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin has generated renewed interest in the Middle East peace process. The coalition is supported by Labor's 42 Knesset seats, plus the Meretz party's 12 seats and the Shas party's six.

Article Abstract:

Yitzhak Rabin's coalition government includes his own Labor Party, the orthodox Shas party and the left centrist Meretz Party headed by the controversial Shulamit Aloni. Many want Aloni removed, partly because of her feminist views. A new coalition must be formed.
