Thomson plans shake-up, strategic investment

Thomson S.A. changes roles of two top-level executives as part of a new strategic plan to be presented to shareholders for a vote in September. In financial news, the television and video-equipment maker announced that it will receive a $500 million investment from private equity group Silver Lake Partners and that despite a first-half net loss, it forecasts increased sales for 2004.

Alcatel's 2002 loss widened over 2001

Alcatel S.A. posted a 11.5 billion euros loss for the 2002 year. The company posted a 4.9 billion euros loss in 2001 under US generally accepted accounting principles.

Shell profit rises; revenue drops: refining, chemicals record higher margins offsetting weak output

First-quarter net profit for PLC rose by 5.6%, reaching $7.28 bil, while revenue decreased by 3.3.% to $73.48 bil. The firm posted a net gain of $371 mil.
