Article Abstract:

Pal Praha (Pal) (Prague, Czech Republic), car accessory manufacturer, should have a 70% stake acquired by Magna (Canada) by the end of 1998. Magna, which has been co-operating with Pal since 1994, held a 51% stake in Pal in September 1998. Pal wants to invest 60 mil Kc in new technology in 1998, nearly 10% of its turnover. Pal has invested several hundreds of millions of Czech crowns in production, control, measuring and development technology since the beginning of the 1990's. The company's productivity of labour increased due to a decrease in the number of employees. Pal decreased the number of employees to about 850 in 1998 compared to 1,750 in 1992. The firm's turnover doubled during the same period. Pal's largest domestic consumer is the car company Skoda Auto (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic). Pal exports to countries of the European Union, the US and Canada. Pal was evaluated by the concern Volkswagen (Germany) as its best supplier in 1997.

Alta will participate in the modernization of Belaz

Article Abstract:

Alta (Brno, Czech Republic), trade company, will participate in supplies for the modernization of the automotive company Belaz (Belarus) from 2001. A contract worth nearly USD 70 mil, which regards the realization of two stages of the project, was arranged by Alta and Belaz in Nov 2000. Alta will ensure the supplies of machine equipment and connected services within the contract.
