Tokyo bulls await return of local buyers in April

Article Abstract:

Some Japanese institutions including banks and big insurance companies prepared for the rallying of prices in the stock market on Apr. 1, 1996 based on the analysis of the Nikkei Index. The event gives them an opportunity to play in the stock market, which has been dominated by foreign investors in previous months. The expected bullish market is expected to pour in money to the accounts of companies that are otherwise expected to have problems in financing in the FY 1997.

Japan launches new stock exchange to stimulate small, expanding firms

Article Abstract:

Japan has launched a new stock exchange called the Frontier Market as part of its attempts at economic reform. Frontier Market is designed to raise funds for small, expanding firms traditionally bypassed by large banks and brokerage firms. Although trading in the new market is expected to be subdued at the outset, the infusion of new capital is expected to stimulate the country's rapidly growing biotechnology and software sectors.

Retail buyers in Japan look to futures for fast gains, clouding market outlook

Article Abstract:

Japan's retail buyers have returned to the stock market and are focusing on futures trading. Some analysts believe that such retail buyers could either be speculators or traditional investors who have little understanding of the risks involved in futures trading. They added that the focus on futures trading could adversely affect the long-term viability of the Japanese stock market.
