Too late for a gentle landing: South-East Asia's currencies are still weak and some of its stockmarkets have crashed. Now the financial crisis is threatening jobs and growth

Article Abstract:

The economies of Southeast Asian countries are not faring as well as they were in the mid-1990s, and the decline is evidenced in the performances of regional stock markets and currency devaluations. Foreign investors lost confidence in the governments because of the latter's actions against them.

Article Abstract:

Financiers are hoping that a positive French vote on the European Monetary Union will help the sagging stockmarkets to rally. The deteriorating condition of the American dollar, however may check such a rally because of continuing losses by exporters.
