The table lists the 29 largest banks in Romania based on equity as of the end of 1997. Bancorex is ranked the largest bank in Romania with an equity of 2,090,295 Romanian leu as of year-end 1997, followed by Romanian Commercial Bank with 1,957,623 Romanian leu. Romanian Development Bank is ranked the third-largest bank in the country with an equity of 1,043,563 Romanian leu as of year-end 1997. The table, compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers Romania, also lists the total assets and profits (EBT) in 1997.

Alpha Credit plans Euro note program

Article Abstract:

Alpha Credit Bank announced that it has reached an agreement on issuing euro medium-term notes worth as much as $1 billion (971.1 million euros). Alpha Credit is the first bank in Greece to launch such a program. Lehman Brothers is the arranger of the issues. The program will be launched in the Luxembourg Stock Exchange with Krediet Bank Luxembourgeoise acting as underwriter.
