Toshiba agrees to acquire stake in uranium mine

Article Abstract:

Japanese electronics firm Toshiba Corp. will purchase a portion of a majority stake in a Kazakhstan uranium mine held by Marubeni Corp. Toshiba's stake would be 22.5%, dropping Marubeni's to 32.5%. The deal provides Toshiba with rights to 600 metric tons of uranium annually supplied by the Kharassan project in Kazakhstan.

Xstrata agrees to buy LionOre

Mining company Xstrata PLC is acquiring Canadian nickel company LionOre Mining International Ltd. for $4.6 billion Canadian dollars. With this acquisition, Xstrata will increase its international nickel business in a time of high nickel demand and dwindling supplies.

Brazilian mining firm Companhia Vale do Rio Doce is negotiating with Xstrata PLC to buy the Swiss firm in a deal worth up to $90 bil. The sale depends on Vale raising the cash required.
