Total may use atomic power at oil-sand project

Article Abstract:

TOTAL S.A. of France is considering using a nuclear power plant to extract oil from its oil sands project in Canada. Although the costs of producing and upgrading the petroleum from the oil sands is far greater than production costs of conventional crude oil, high petrolem and gas prices and low petroleum reserves are making production of the oil sands more feasible.

GDF-Suez deal sets up EU-Paris fight: national governments, regulators in Brussels vie over energy policy

Article Abstract:

The merger deal struck between French state-owned Gaz de France and its domestic counterpart Suez S.A. is expected to intensify the dispute between national governments and the European Union with regard to energy policy supremacy. The GDF-Suez merger creates an energy entity with revenue totaling $98.08 bil, with the French government owning a stake of 35.6%.

New timetable sought for GDF-Suez merger

Article Abstract:

The board of Gaz de France has set out a new timetable for the Suez S.A. energy merger, possibly lessening the chances of the deal. There has been much international and domestic criticism and the French government has said the merger would violate European Union deregulation legislation. The deal is on hold until the Summer.
