Tough decade for North Sea cod fleet

Article Abstract:

The North Sea cod spawning biomass is steadily decreasing mainly due to many young fish being caught before they reproduce for the first time and the increase in the seals, according to International Council for the Exploration of the Seas chief, David de G. Griffith. Though stock recovery measures like not allowing fishing on the spawning grounds which is not adequate and did not help in increasing the cod stocks which were 250,000 in 1970Es and expected to be 28, 800 tonnes only 2004.

First cruise probes new country's stocks

Article Abstract:

A joint co-operation initiative between The Royal Thai Government's Department of Fisheries and Timor Leste's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has culminated in a first fisheries and oceanographic research cruise in the region to assess the commercial fish species in Timor Leste's EEZ. The details of the cruise are presented.

'Herring looks good for the future'

Herring stocks in the Norwegian Sea forecast a prospective future for the fishing industry. According to the reports of a pelagic skipper, a single shot herring is able to earn 220 tonnes for them.
