Trade bloc delegation out to woo Australia

Article Abstract:

The BIMP-EAGA trade bloc represents the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area, one of Southeast Asia's newest sub-regional growth areas. The bloc wants to woo Australia and will send senior ministers and business people to hold a series of high-level seminars in Sydney and Melbourne to increase awareness. The tour begins Mar. 30, 1998, and is led by the Northern Territory Department of Asian Relations, Trade and Industry, which wants to reinforce commitment of Australia to be a dynamic part of the Asia-Pacific region. It wants to present opportunities to potential investors and set up barter trade.

Australia: Asia's supermarket?

Article Abstract:

Asian supermarkets are full of Australian produce. Prime Minister John Howard's establishment of the Supermarkets to Asia Council (STAC) provides the leadership necessary to focus on Asian countries. However, meat contamination scares have decreased the demand for Australian beef in Japan and South Korea. Products such as ice cream, cheese, and frozen pizzas are increasingly becoming popular in South Korea.

Fresh logo a symbol of Australian quality

Article Abstract:

Quality Food Australia will be placing its mark on food exported to Asian markets to indicate products have met food quality and safety standards. The mark will be licensed to manufacturers or producers and provide them with a marketing advantage over competitors. The licensees must show that they have a food safety plan, a quality assurance plan and meet import country requirements to qualify.
